 NANCY CICCHETTI - ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My travels in Mexico, Italy, Utah and throughout California have influenced my work. Whether portraying the street life of Qaxaca, the rock formations in Bryce Canyon, or the driftwood on the Mendocino coast, I look at the complexity of images, the juxtaposition of color, and the edges of shapes. Nature has supplied me with a never-ending panorama of subjects. I don’t need to paint a seascape – a single piece of driftwood can give me the peace and solitude of a day on the beach. Likewise, my images of people are not stagnant portraits, but moments in time that encapsulate a mood or relationship. My subject matter is diverse because I continually find new objects that draw me in.
