Grape juice, passion and alchemy distinguish the fine winemaking at Ross Valley Winery. Since 1987, with notable success, our small Marin County operation has specialized in transforming modest lots of unique grapes into vineyard-designated wines, each with its own individual character and particular personality. Our endeavor is to provide distinctive wines which represent a good value, in a friendly environment where people are able to participate in and learn about wine and the winemaking process.
Our grapes are surrounded by friendships and festivity. To my knowledge, we are the only bonded winery in the United States involving people in winemaking to the extent we do. Our bottling and picking work parties have left many indelible memories within our community. Barrel tastings and other social events have cemented workfield friendships and developed an even wider range of interested individuals.
I hold closely the enjoyment and comradeship this winery has brought into my life, and relish the idea of sharing it with you. Paul Kreider, owner and winemaker

My latest book, "49 Things You Should have Learned by the time you turn Fifty" is finally published. Eventually we will have copies available at the tasting room, but meanwhile you can purchase copies from the publisher's site: click here
Hint: this is a fun read, a great gift and you do not need to be 50 or anywhere near that age to enjoy or learn from it.
Our idea to make a recession red wine and sell it at .1% of the Dow Jones Industrial Average and change the price daily on a blackboard in our front window seemed to spark some interest as it struck a schadenfreudliche blow.Three television networks and two newspapers did articles on the brand, resulting in the need to do a second bottling. At least when the Dow dropped, people could come in a get a very good bottle of wine at an even lower price to soothe their financial fears. I blended together two varietals from our inventory, 2006 Cabernet and 2007 Merlot and while we might have sold those bottles in the mid $20 range in a couple of years, I decided to generate some cash flow now, kind of like robbing our future assets to stay alive while keeping our fingers crossed that times will get better. What we have lost in revenue we made up in publicity, very valuable for a tiny winery amid the elephants of the California wine industry.
This wine is available in limited supply in the tasting room, three bottle maximum per household per week, cash only, and by telephone and e-mail order. Today 2/1/2009 it's all gone. It is replaced by
I think a sense of humor goes a long way in this environment, and I also think Recovery Red is a more optimistic spin on this rather nasty time in our economic history. The price is the same, .1% of today's Dow Jones Industrial Opening Price. THAT'S A TENTH OF A PERCENT, $10.06 today with the dow at $10,067. We will rebound, but you need to keep some bounce in your being and not let all that depressing news, only a little of which will really affect you, get you down.
